high bank stair
prefabricated kit of parts
This stair, located on a 20 foot bank, was designed to create a truss assembly to free span from the bank to an existing foundation on the beach using entirely off the shelf prefabricated parts (stair treads grating and clamps) connected with standard tube components and swaged cable tension elements. The entire unit was assembled on the bank and flipped into place at the pin connection. A custom handrail as then added to the structure. The idea here was to minimize impact to the beach avoiding additional excavation to be done at the shoreline. A new concrete wall was poured to elevate the existing foundation enabling a raised landing to allow a articulating ramp at the final run to the beach. This worked like a gang plank that could be raised during winter storms that bring potentially damaging logs.
